The successful candidate will work with all internal departments, particularly operational and commercial teams, as well as external customer and supplier contacts.
An Accounts Assistant is required to manage day-to-day accounts payable and receivable processes, complete monthly reconciliations for submission to the wider finance function, and take ownership of analysis work across a range of areas as required.
The Company
The organisation operates from Christchurch and maintains a finance function that supports day-to-day operations and reports into a divisional finance team.
The Role
- Process supplier invoices end-to-end with accurate coding to materials, freight and overheads and the correct cost centre
- Manage weekly and monthly payment runs
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain supplier records and support procurement
- Apply correct GST treatment on all AP transactions
- Set up customers and maintain customer records
- Complete credit checks and arrange credit insurance for new customers
- Allocate incoming payments and follow up overdue debtors, escalating where required
- Liaise with sales and operations to resolve billing queries
- Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations
- Reconcile AP and AR balances and post or review accruals and corrections
- Support month-end close through journals, additional reconciliations and submission of results
- Identify and implement process improvements within finance
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Experience in a similar accounts payable / receivable or finance coordinator / analyst role
- Solid working knowledge of NZ GST and general accounting principles
- Experience using an ERP system
- Strong Excel and MS Office skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with suppliers, customers and internal teams
- Attention to detail and a focus on accurate, timely processing
- Candidates will need valid working rights for New Zealand
