A privately held New Zealand business is seeking an experienced senior finance professional for a fixed-term assignment through to end of winter 2027.
Working alongside the existing finance lead and business owners, you will strengthen cashflow visibility, improve financial reporting and establish more efficient finance processes across a multi-entity environment. A major focus will be developing robust financial models and introducing practical, well-controlled uses of AI within the finance function.
This is a hands-on position rather than a purely advisory engagement. You will initially take ownership of the more technically complex work, before progressively transferring knowledge and responsibility to the internal finance team.
The Company
This established private business operates through multiple entities and projects. It is entering a period of finance improvement, with an emphasis on clearer information, stronger systems and developing its internal capability.
The environment is commercially focused, collaborative and relatively informal. Due to the confidential nature of the appointment, further information will be provided during the recruitment process.
The Role
- Review existing finance processes, systems, reporting and information flows.
- Establish reliable consolidated cashflow forecasting across multiple entities and projects.
- Build and maintain cashflow, funding and reforecasting models with clearly linked assumptions and schedules.
- Improve monthly reporting for business owners and external stakeholders.
- Streamline month-end, payment, reconciliation and management reporting processes.
- Introduce practical AI-enabled workflows across reporting, analysis and financial review.
- Assess the value of existing finance tools and recommend whether they should be retained or replaced.
- Document processes, models and AI workflows to support consistent future use.
- Mentor the internal finance lead in financial modelling, forecasting and AI-enabled finance processes.
- Complete a structured handover so the improved finance function can operate independently.
Your Profile
- A senior finance background gained as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, CFO or experienced finance consultant.
- CA, CPA, CIMA qualification or equivalent experience would be advantageous.
- Advanced financial modelling and cashflow forecasting capability using Excel.
- Experience working across multi-entity, project-based or similarly complex organisations.
- Practical experience applying generative AI tools within finance processes.
- Strong understanding of New Zealand financial reporting, GST and tax requirements.
- Experience producing clear financial information for business owners, directors, funders or lenders.
- A hands-on approach and the ability to move comfortably between strategic priorities and detailed implementation.
- A collaborative mentoring style, with the patience to build capability rather than retain knowledge.
- Availability for a part-time commitment from November 2026 through to July 2027.
The assignment can largely be completed remotely, with occasional video or in-person meetings. The weekly time commitment and engagement structure will be agreed with the successful candidate.
