We are seeking a Family Lawyer, based in our Christchurch City office. This is a genuine opportunity to do deeply meaningful work. You will help people navigate some of the most challenging and emotional times in their lives - providing compassionate, pragmatic advice that makes a real difference for families.
About the Role
You will work closely with experienced family lawyers and legal executives, supported by a dedicated PA. Under the guidance of Partner Nicole Murphy and with additional support from our part-time Auckland-based Associate, you will manage your own files, develop your advocacy and negotiation skills, appear in Court, and progressively take on more complex and higher-value matters.
Key areas of work include some or all of the following:
- Separation and divorce
- Care of children
- Protection orders and family violence matters
- Separation and divorce
- Spousal maintenance
- Relationship property/contracting out agreements
- PPPR applications
About You
We are seeking a lawyer with approximately two years post-qualification experience in family law or a closely related area (litigation, or trusts experience will also be considered). We also welcome applications from strong graduates who demonstrate real maturity, resilience, a "get up and go" attitude, and excellent technical ability.
You will need:
- A genuine passion for family law and a client-focused, empathetic approach
- Solid academic and practical ability, with the maturity and wisdom to thrive in a busy practice
- A clear understanding of billable hours and a willingness to work productively to meet targets
- A positive outlook, strong work ethic, and the ability to work collaboratively in a supportive team environment
