This is a rare chance to join an industry leader and be part of a finance team that gets the work done so people can actually enjoy their evenings. You’ll work hard, hit deadlines, and then switch off – and you won’t be expected to take yourself too seriously along the way.
As Finance Assistant you’ll sit across payables, payroll and receivables, so you’ll build breadth rather than being locked into a single ledger. You’ll also have a genuine mandate to look at how the work is done – tightening processes and exploring where AI and smarter tools can take the grind out of the day.
This is an office-based role on Moorhouse Avenue in a modern workspace just steps from local cafés, gyms and lunch spots. You get the convenience of central Christchurch without the CBD traffic.
The Company
Harcourts is the largest real estate brand in New Zealand. Grenadier Real Estate Limited is the largest Harcourts franchise in the South Island – known for exemplary service and a habit of delivering above and beyond its competitors.
The business now employs more than 260 people across 10 office locations. You’ll join a finance team that values teamwork, good-hearted humour and getting the job done without the fuss. It’s a stable, well-known brand with the scale to keep you busy and the culture to make the work enjoyable.
The Role
You’ll be a key part of the finance team. The role has a payables and payroll focus, but you’ll work interchangeably across the team so deadlines are met. Duties include:
- End-to-end processing of accounts payable
- Processing payroll, resolving queries and posting journals
- Supporting accounts receivable processing
- Reconciliations and ad hoc finance administration
- Identifying process improvements and helping develop practical AI and automation solutions that make finance workflows faster, cleaner and less manual
You’re organised, methodical and happy to multi-task. You’ll bring:
- Existing and valid New Zealand working rights (sponsorship is not offered)
- Relevant commercial finance experience; Xero and Smartly experience is useful but not essential
- Someone who works hard to finish on time and still values a good-humoured office culture
- Strong organisation, the ability to prioritise multiple work streams, and clear written and verbal communication
- Curiosity about better ways of working – comfortable spotting process gaps and open to using AI and digital tools to improve how finance gets done
- Full working rights are required and no sponsorship is offered.
