You're a accountant who enjoys the variety of a hands-on role. You want to own the month-end close, keep balance sheets clean, support group reporting and partner with managers on the numbers that drive decisions – all within a manufacturing and engineering environment that offers real multi-entity exposure.
In this Christchurch-based position you'll report to the Group Financial Controller and work across a group with several business units. You'll prepare journals, accruals and reconciliations, maintain the fixed asset register, support budgeting and forecasting, assist with project costing and profitability analysis, and help keep controls and compliance tight. There's genuine scope to improve processes, contribute to system enhancements and build strong working relationships with operational managers. You'll be part of a finance function that values accuracy, collaboration and continuous improvement – operating inside a business with deep New Zealand roots and a growing international footprint.

The Role
You'll support the delivery of accurate, timely and reliable financial information across the group. Key responsibilities include:
- Complete month-end close activities accurately and on time – journals, accruals, prepayments, bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating outstanding items
- Ensure intercompany balances are accurately recorded and eliminated; prepare monthly management reports and schedules and support group reporting packages
- Support variance analysis and reporting to business managers; assist with annual budgeting and forecasting, tracking performance and explaining material variances
- Maintain the fixed asset register – process additions, disposals and transfers, calculate and post depreciation, and support periodic asset verification
- Support financial control and compliance (including GST, FBT and income tax), assist with audit requests and year-end reporting, and maintain the integrity of financial records
- Assist with project financial reporting, revenue recognition, costing, profitability analysis and margin reporting; partner with operational managers to provide clear financial insights
- Contribute to systems and process improvement, reporting automation and continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function
You're a detail-oriented, commercially aware accountant who thrives in a collaborative environment. You'll bring:
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, plus Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) qualification
- 3–5+ years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls and month-end processes
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills and hands-on experience working with ERP systems
- Experience (or genuine interest) in manufacturing, engineering, project-based or industrial environments; exposure to multi-entity or multi-currency reporting is an advantage
- Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, clear communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while building effective relationships across the business
