As the Senior Finance Manager, you’ll join an established construction business in a leadership role focused on strengthening financial performance, accountability and decision-making. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board, this is a broad, hands-on position spanning commercial finance, management reporting, team leadership, payroll and systems oversight.
You’ll move the finance function beyond transactional processing and basic reporting, ensuring management and Board information is accurate, explainable and useful. Alongside providing proactive financial leadership and constructive challenge, you’ll mentor and develop the team, improve costing and month-end processes, and help shape a planned replacement of the organisation’s ERP platform.

The Role
- Provide commercial financial leadership and strategic input to the CEO and Board, interpreting results, challenging assumptions and supporting better business decisions
- Deliver accurate, clear and explainable management reporting and Board packs, resolving unexplained variances and improving confidence in financial information
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, clarifying responsibilities, improving accountability and performance-managing where required
- Partner with operational leaders and senior stakeholders, providing practical financial insight, constructive challenge and clear management of expectations
- Improve costing, job-level tracking, month-end processes and management information to give leaders a clearer view of operational and commercial performance
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and commercial planning, helping the organisation understand future performance, risks, opportunities and resource requirements
- Oversee finance, payroll and related IT systems, while leading or supporting the planned replacement of the current ERP platform
Your Profile
- Chartered Accountant or equivalent preferred, with senior commercial finance experience gained in a broad, hands-on leadership role
- Strong commercial orientation, with the ability to interpret results, identify the story behind the numbers and provide practical strategic input
- Proven experience leading and developing a finance team, including mentoring, clarifying accountability and managing performance when required
- Strong management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and costing capability, with the discipline to eliminate errors and unexplained variances
- Confident communicator with the judgement and character to challenge constructively, influence senior leaders and work effectively with a technically rigorous Board
- Comfortable leading systems and process change, ideally including involvement in an ERP replacement or significant finance transformation
- Hold full, unrestricted working rights for New Zealand and be based in Christchurch
